This week's BBC4 classic Top of the Pops repeat (17 August 1978) featured Legs & Co. dancing to Cerrone's disco smash Supernature. Yes, I've featured this performance on the site before, more than once, but the much-better quality gives me the excuse to repost it.
Flick's interpretation of the lyrics seems rather unorthodox here: I'd always assumed the song was a warning about both industrial pollution and Doctor-Moreau-Style experiments on animals. "Watch out, or Nature might start fighting back" was the message, or so I thought. But from this performance, the song must actually be a warning to homely lab-technician girls: to be careful what concoctions the brew up in their test tubes and beakers, lest their experiments turn them into foxy jungle chicks in teeny animal-hide bikinis. Gosh.
I Just Found Out Department: Lene Lovich wrote the lyrics to Supernature: here's her 1986 version.
